NYTimes API data visualizations

These are the first in a series data visualizations using the NYTimes API and Jer Thorp’s NYTimes Article Search API Library. It utilizes facets(unique to the NYT api) to filter results from the NYTimes article database ranging back to 1981.

example:[addFacetQuery] = (filter = Libya)
addFacet = geo_facet    |    Title, Body, Date, Geo, People, Small_image

For example, I was curious to see the number of instances of the keywords linking wikileaks (from 2010 only) to terrorism.  For some reason the NYT api only returns to the first 15 queries so multiple searches are necessary.

Wikileaks vs terrorism

Some other possible Query Iterations:
Wikileaks, country, des
Terror, Terrorism, Wikileaks
Climate Change, Global Warming, Sustainability
Obesity, local, locavore
Graffiti, New York neighborhoods, art
Mexico, drug war, border violence, border deaths, narco, US, weapons, corruption
text comparison
image wall using small_image, small_image_height, small_image_width field
We Feel Fine Wordle – NYT coverage bias vs another media world view (Fox, Al Jazeera)

Curious to see some of these visualizations rendered physically either in lego form or to the laser cutter (naturally) as a book, cardboard.  http://www.omnivoracious.com/2011/03/book-sculptor-or-book-surgeon.html
