Sound Sculpture Book

Most frivolous use of a laser cutter yet?  Perhaps, but ever since visiting the Museum of Art and Design’s Slash: Paper Under The Knife exhibition, I’ve been eager to explore create a book sculpture exploring the materiality of paper.  Although book sculpture art has been around for a while, the laser cutter makes the very tedious process of overlaying one medium (sound waveform) over another (printed word) accessible to someone like me with extreme ADHD.  I was limited to laser cutting ~10 pages at a time for risk of burning one of my favorite pieces of fiction (Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn).

~35 speed / ~90 power / 5000 frequency.
