Marko Manriquez: about

Marko programming Max

University of California, San Diego
Major: Visual Arts (Media), 2007, Magna Cum Laude
Honors: Alumni Merit Scholar, Hispanic College Fund Scholar, Russell Grant Recipient, Center for Research in Computers & the Arts Grant, Golden Key, and Provost's List.

Marko Manriquez is a native to sunny San Diego, currently residing in even sunnier Boulder, Colorado where he is enjoying the novel concept of 'seasons'. He graduated magna cum laude from UCSD in 2007 where he studied media and philosophy (and minored in staying up all night busting out stunning works of art).

Marko’s art veers across disciplines and mediums to include film & video, interactive & web design, environmental and installation art. Embedded in his aesthetic practice, one may find the use of: data aggregation & data visualization; freeganism; Augmented Reality; Max/MSP/Jitter patches; and old school stitchery - all coexisting happily together! Like any decent media pluralist, he seeks to explore the aesthetics of natural phenomena while extrapolating on the spirit of innovation, intervention and intended technological misappropriation. His work is immediately accessible yet contentious enough to plumb the intersections of sustainability, interactivity and activism as our post-digital society approaches the boundaries of the Art Coefficient, the Long Tail and the Triple Bottom Line equally. (Yes, art school taught me to write this way).
